Sheriff Mark Casteel, a Montgomery County Indiana native, began his law enforcement career in 1989 working in the Montgomery County Jail while also attending Vincennes University. Upon Graduation from Vincennes University, 1990, Sheriff Casteel began working in the Montgomery County Jail full-time and in 1993 was appointed to a Merit Deputy Sheriff position. Sheriff Casteel was later promoted to Patrol Sergeant. In November 2010 Casteel was elected Sheriff of Montgomery County and began serving his first term in January 2011. Sheriff Casteel was re-elected and began serving his second term in 2015.
Sheriff Casteel is an honor graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy and a graduate of the National Sheriff's Institute. Sheriff Casteel has served on the Indiana Sheriff's Association Board of Directors. Sheriff Casteel has received extensive training over the course of his law enforcement career. Sheriff Casteel leads by example and has established a great rapport with other law enforcement leaders and agencies, the community and the people of Montgomery County.
Sheriff Casteel and his wife Kimberly have been married for 25 years and have two children; Sydney (19) and Toby (15).
